Peta Murgatroyd

Peta Murgatroyd is a Latin ballroom professional dancer from Australia with international recognition, winning the famous Mirror Ball twice.

Early Accomplishments

At the tender age of 4, she trained in classical ballet under a famed instructor until an injury to her ankle saw her quit ballet at age 16.

Picking up Latin ballroom dance soon after, she became state champ of Western Australia Amateur Latin contest in 2002 and 2003.

At 18, she joined the global tour of the Burn the Floor cast.

Best Known For

In 2009, when Burn the Floor made its Broadway debut, she was female lead dancer. She signed up with Dancing with the Stars cast in 2011 from season 13 until now, missing only seasons 21 & 23.

Seasons 14 and 21 of DWTS saw her and her partners (Donald Driver & Nyle DiMarco) became winners of the competition.

Sexual Orientation

Peta is straight. She and Maksim Chmerkovskiy got hitched in 2017 after 2 years of engagement. They had both endured an on-and-off romance since 2012.

Before that, she dated Damian Whitewood for 5 years since 2007 and she also had a brief romance with her DWTS partner, Brant Daugherty in 2013. 

Family

She considers herself Australian having lived there since she was 2. Born to New Zealanders, Derek and Suzanne Murgatroyd, she has a sister named Sam. 

She and Maksim became parents to son, Shai Aleksander in 2017.

Dabbling into acting, she made a debut in the 2019 romcom, Faith, Hope & Love.
