Tristan's parents are Trevor and Andrea Thompson. One of his brothers, Dishawn is also a very good basketball player. The former Canadian footballer, Jemal Thompson is Tristan's cousin. From his previous relationship with Jordan, he has a child named Oliver.

As a child, Tristan was raised in a Christian family, under the Catholic denomination. Religion seemed to be an important part of his family as his education also played a part in forming his religious foundation. He attended 2 Catholic high schools when he was young, one in Canada and in the other in the US. However, it is unknown if Tristan has remained devoted to his childhood faith.
