Her acting career officially kicked off in 1987 through the thriller film Hangmen where she played the Lisa character.

Her career hit its first peak in 1995 as she starred in the action film Speed as well as its sequel. Her impeccable portrayal of the Annie character in this film earned her 3 MTV Movie + TV Awards. 

In 2010, she won her first Golden Globe and Academy Award for starring in the sports drama, The Blind Side.
