A whole lot of musical package in one is the man known as Robert James Smith. Singer, songwriter, lyricist, multi-instrumentalist, guitar maven and prolific frontman has made the only steady element of ‘The Cure’ a rock icon and music prodigy.
Early Accomplishments
He started plucking guitar strings at 6 and after tutelage by his teenage brother, he started playing well and together with his friends started a school rock band at 13 called The Obelisk.
Best Known For
Asides wearing heavy makeup, sporting craftily scruffy/spiky hair, monochrome wardrobe and being a major instigator of goth culture, his fame are from his work with his crew, The Cure. Of the several great albums made, 1989’s Disintegration and 1992’s Wish are the most celebrated.

Smith is straight. He has been married since 1988 to Mary Poole whom met in high school after dating her for 15 years.
Family
Born as the third of a family of four children parented by Alexander and Rita Smith, he has Richard and Margaret as his elder siblings and Janet as a little sister. He doesn’t have any children. However, has twenty five nieces and nephews.
Religion
Although Robert was raised in a Catholic family, he has chosen the way of atheism. He speaks negatively about religion every chance he gets.
Worth To Know
His initial band was not The Obelisk, it was an ensemble with Janet, Richard and some of his friends. They named it Crawley Goat Band.
Robert played all the instruments except the drums in the production of solo album for The Cure in 1984.
