One of Stephen's earliest work as a director was seen through the 1985 action-drama film titled Certain Fury.

Best Known For

Over the past decades, Stephen has attained much recognition through the 1990 television film A Killing in a Small Town. His incredible work as a director of this film earned him a Primetime Emmy Award nomination. Most recently, he directed a movie titled So B. It, which was based on a Sarah Weeks novel.

Stephen is straight. For a whopping 32 years, he was married to the screenwriter Naomi Foner Gyllenhaal. Unfortunately, their union came to an end in 2009.
