1997 marked the official start of Katie's acting career through her role in the movie, The Ice Storm. The following year, she got a role in the television series, Dawson's Creek, which launched her into her first level of fame.

Katie is straight. For 6 years, Katie dated Chris Klein and they even got engaged but unfortunately, their relationship ended before they could tie the knot. Growing up, Katie was brought up in a Christian family under the Catholic denomination. For high school, she attended a Catholic institution. Years into her adulthood, she began attending the Church of Scientology after her marriage to Tom Cruise. However, once her divorce with Tom was finalized, she returned to her Catholic roots, leaving Scientology behind and even enrolled her daughter in a Catholic high school.
