Who is Shemp Howard?

Shemp Howard or as he was named by birth Samuel Horwitz was a comedy actor and the participant of The Three Stooges founded together with his brothers.

Early Accomplishments

Before The Three Stooges appeared, Shemp and Moe filmed in sketch called Howard and Howard—A Study In Black

Best Known for

Each Howard brother had his trademark. As well as Curly, Shemp was known for a strange but familiar to everybody fancy Gee-gee-gee-gee-gee! that he used by any appropriate case in the scenes.

Samuel didn’t differ with beauty. Due to his irregular features and haircut the actor was once named the ugliest man in Hollywood.

Apart from being an actor of The Three Stooges, Shemp featured lots of films. The most popular among them is The Bank Dick.

Sexual Orientation

Shemp was straight. He was married only once in his life. With Gertrude "Babe" Frank lived till his dying days and the couple had one son.

Religious Beliefs

Shemp Howard was Jewish as well as his brothers.

Worth to Know

Shemp was a part of The Three Stooges till the time when in 1933 his brother Curly took his role, but in 1946, Shemp came back to the vaudeville as Curly suffered from the stroke and couldn’t film.

Shemp’s death was unexpected. He died on a backseat of a car while coming back from a boxing match.

His stage name Shemp stuck to him due to his mom. The woman had a strong accent and every time when she called the boy by name instead of “Sam” appeared something closer to “Shemp”.
