Who is James Young Styx?

James Young is an American musician known as the lead guitarist at Styx band.

Early Accomplishments

James was playing piano and keyboards at the age of five. While studying at the Illinois Institute of Technology, he joined the TW4 band, which later was renamed into Styx. In 1985, he released his first solo album called City Slicker.

Best Known For

His name is more associated with the Styx band and his songs Snowblind and Miss America. He also managed the rock band 7th Heaven together with Alec John Such. 

Sexual Orientation

There were many controversies about his sexual orientation, saying he’s homosexual; therefore, he was married to Susan Young who died in 2022. She was working as an advocate for Styx band matters and was often traveling with her husband. The cause of death wasn’t shared with the public.

Family

James hasn’t revealed detailed information about his parents, but when he recalled his childhood, he admitted his family was a loving one and helped him to reach the music heights. His father could play piano for hours and his four siblings took interest in piano lessons as well.

He is Christian but never told whether he was raised Catholic or Orthodox.

Throughout the history of the Styx band, James was the only unchangeable member since the band’s formation. He also was called the Godfather of Styx. He met his future boyband team while studying at the mechanical and aerospace faculty, thus, his initial plans were different.
