James Toney

James Nathaniel Toney is an American professional boxer who also competed in mixed fights.

Early Accomplishments

James grew up in the ghetto, carried weapons and sold drugs. At the same time, he was a promising athlete - at school he was fond of American football and boxing.

James attended the University of Michigan American football training camp, but there he got into a fight with future NFL star Deion Sanders. After this incident, Toney decided to concentrate on boxing.

Best Known For

Toney spent 33 fights in amateur boxing. There were 31 wins (29 by knockout) and 2 losses.

On October 26, 1988, at the age of 20, Tony became a professional boxer. He is a 2-time IBF world champion in three weight categories, in total he defeated 11 boxers for the world title.

Toney is straight.

He is married to Angie Corruly, the mother of six children. But they welcomed only one common child with James, the youngest son Jaden. Boxer also has a daughter from his first marriage.

Family

James Toney was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan. His father James and mother Sherry were not legally married when he was born.

After the birth of James Jr., his mother and father got married, but the marriage was not a happy one. After four months of marriage, Sherry filed for divorce.

Religion

James is not religious, but out of respect for his manager, he entered the ring with the Star of David in boxer shorts.

James trained with famous actor Mickey Rourke when he was boxing.

In 2001, Tony starred as Joe Frazier in the feature film Ali.
