Who is Geoffrey Rush?

Geoffrey Rush is an Australian actor, the founder of the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts, and the receiver of the title the 2012 Australian of the Year.

Early Accomplishments

Acquiring bachelor’s in Arts at the University of Queensland he was noticed by Queensland Theatre Company for whom he worked on numerous acting projects. In the 1990s he made a break-though as a movie actor taking part in some notable projects such as the Shine movie (1996) and Shakespeare in Love movie (1998).

Best Known For

Geoffrey is famous among the audience for portraying Hector Barbossa in The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

His outstanding performances were also recognized by critiques. Rush is known for acquiring the Triple Crown of Acting which stands for winning theatre, movie, and television awards. Rush won the Oscar (The Academy Award) for Shine movie,  Primetime Emmy Award for The Life and Death of Peter Sellers TV movie (2004), and the Tony Award for Exit the King drama.

Rush is straight and since 1988 has been married to Jane Menelaus, stage TV, and movie actress.

Family

Geoffrey was born in the family of Merle and Roy Baden Rush, both European descendants. His parents split while Geoffrey was still a child.

Together with Jane, Geoffrey has two children: a daughter Angelica (b.1992) and a son James (b.1995).
