Ne-Yo is a 3-time Grammy Award winning song composer, singer and music producer. He has also enjoyed success as a dancer and actor.

Early Accomplishments

In his later teenage years, he went by the “GoGo” and was part of the group, Envy. The group was featured on Showtime at the Apollo amateur night and The Cut.

After the group disbanded in 2000, he began to write songs for many artistes such as Marques Houston’s That Girl and Mario’s Let Me Love You. 

Best Known For

His first 3 albums attracted tremendous critical and commercial success due to songs such as So Sick, Because of You, Closer and Miss Independent.

Some of his major acting credits include Stomp The Yard (2007), Battle: Los Angeles (2011), Red Tails (2012) and as a regular in the series, Step up: high water (2018-date).

Ne-Yo is straight. He got wedded in 2016 after a 5-month engagement to Crystal Williams, this coming after his 3-year relationship with Monyetta Shaw ended in 2013.

He also dated Jessica White in 2004 as well as Tennille Jimenez, Casha Darjean and Karrine Steffans, amidst a rumored hookup with Vivica A. Fox.

Family

He is the son of an unnamed dad and Lorraine Smith and was named Shaffer Chimere Smith at birth.

He fathers 4 children; daughter Madilyn (born 2010) and son Mason (born 2011) with Monyetta and sons Shaffer Jr. (born 2016) and Roman (born 2018) with Crystal.

He is also godfather to his ex, Jessica’s son, a boy named Chimere (born 2005). He formerly fathered him until it was revealed that the child was not his.

Ne-Yo is a devoted Christian. He has been quoted to say that he never forgets to pray every day, thanking God for being where he is today.
