James McAvoy

Scottish actor James McAvoy is one of the best, most talented and versatile stage and screen actors in the world today.

Early Accomplishments

Although not initially interested in acting, he debuted on film at age 15 in The Near Room (1995) but continued to study acting and eventually attended Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.

He featured in 4 other movies before his first feature film, Bollywood Queens (2003) and in 2004, appeared in 13 episodes of Shameless.

Best Known For

His biggest film roles to date have come in The Last King of Scotland (2006), Atonement (2007), Filth (2013) and in 2016 thriller, Split and its 2019 sequel, Glass.

He also starred as a younger Charles Xavier in the X-Men films, played lead in Victor Frankenstein (2015), Atomic Blonde (2017) and voiced Gnomeo in the respective Gnomeo & Juliet films.

He has also earned 3 Laurence Olivier best actor award for his West End undertakings. 

Sexual Orientation

James is straight. His 2006 marriage Anne-Marie Duff was amicably dissolved after a decade after which he was rumored to have had an affair with Alexandra Shipp.

He was in a 7-year relationship with Emma Neilson from 1995 and since 2016, he has been in a relationship with Lisa Liberati.

Family

He is the first son of estranged dad James Sr. and Elizabeth McAvoy (died 2018) and has Joy McAvoy as a younger sister and Donald McAvoy as a half-brother.

He and his ex-wife became parents to a son, Brendan in 2010.

Religion

James was raised as a Roman Catholic and even thought about priesthood. Although not devoted to Catholicism anymore, he still regards himself to be spiritual.
