Meryl Streep

Meryl Streep is a legend of Hollywood. Acknowledged for her accents and adaptability, she is regarded as the best in her generation.

Early Accomplishments

She sang an opera at a recital at age 12 and was cast in her junior high school titled The Family Upstairs. She was also a cheerleader and her senior year homecoming queen.

She earned a BA come laude in drama from Vassar College, MFA from Yale and a PhD from Dartmouth College. She made a stage debut in 1975 and received a Tony Award nomination in 1976. 

Best Known For

As a testament to the respected level she has attained, she has won 172 awards including 3 Oscars and 9 Golden Globes among 403 nominations (holds the record at 21 of Oscar nominations).

Some of her easily famous starring roles have come in The Devil Wears Prada (2006), Out of Africa (1985), Julie & Julia (2009) and Doubt (2008).

Meryl is straight and has been married Donald Gummer since 1978, only 6 months after lung cancer took her partner, John Cazale away. She had been living with him since 1976 until his demise. 

Family

She was the first child and only daughter of Harry Jr. and Mary Streep and her siblings are Harry III and Dana Streep (both actors).

She is mother of musician Henry Gummer (born 1979), actress Mary (born 1983), actress Grace (born 1986) and model Louisa (born 1991); and grandmother to a few.

Religion

Although Meryl has been outspoken about religion and her beliefs, she appears to be agnostic despite her Presbyterian upbringing and her fascination with Catholic sacred rituals.

Worth To Know

She originally was on her way to law school but missed her admission interview as she overslept that morning. This made her belief her destiny was not in law.

She has a deep phobia for helicopters.
