James Kottak is a popular drummer with Scorpions, the German hard metal band. He spent 2 decades with the group until he was fired in 2016.
Although he took to drumming quite early, he did not begin to drum professionally until his early 20s. His first professional job was with Buster Brown on the 1985 album, Sign of Victory before joining Montrose in 1987 and recorded the album, Mean with them.
Best Known For
He became the band’s longest-serving drummer before he was let go from Scorpions. He recorded 8 studio albums with them plus 2 live records.
He also started his own band, Kottak (formerly known as Krunk) and featured his ex-wife. They have 4 albums out including Attack in 2011.
James is straight. He was married to fellow drummer Tommy Jones’ sister, Athena Bass who is also a drummer. They were married since 1996 after dating for a few years. They however divorced in 2010 but she still appeared on Krunk’s 2011 album.
James’ family background is not privileged information as he has kept it away from the prying ears of the media. He is the father of Matthew Kottak (born 1997) but also adopted Athena’s kids from her previous marriage, Tobi and Miles.
James’ religious beliefs and practices cannot be determined. He however appears to be an Islamophobe due to his incriminating comments against the religion in 2014 while in Dubai.
Worth To Know
He spent a month in Dubai jail for offensive behavior, drunkenness and insulting their faith.
Courtesy of his serious alcoholism, he was fired from the band and he has been to rehab a few times.
