Javier Bardem

Javier Bardem is definitely one of the top 3 Spaniards in Hollywood right now. He is the first Spanish actor to earn an Oscar nomination and a win.  

Early Accomplishments

Coming from a whole extended family of thespians, he spent a lot of time on movie sets and at theatres and even made a film debut in El Picaro when he was 6.

He also played rugby and represented the national team at junior level. After many years of pursuing other passions, he returned to the screen in Las edades de Lulú (The Ages of Lulu) (1990).

Best Known For

He has gathered admiration of peers and fans and an arsenal of awards such as BAFTA, SAG, Academy, Golden Globe and an Oscar for films such as No Country for Old Men (2007), Before Night Falls (2000), Biutiful (2010), Skyfall (2012) and Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008).

Javier is straight. He has been married to actress Penelope Cruz since 2010 after dating for 3 years during filming of Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Before then, he was in a relationship with Cristina Pales since 1991 and lasted more than a decade.

Family

He is the youngest child of José Carlos Encinas and Pilar Bardem but was raised by his mother. His other siblings are sister Mónica and brother Carlos.

He and Cruz are parents to son Leo (born 2011) and daughter Luna (born 2013). 

Religion

Javier was raised as a Catholic but as he grew older, he began to fault the teachings of the church until he left entirely. He now lives his life as an atheist with a small belief in the supernatural.

Despite the villainous roles he plays, he despises violence. He also can’t drive.

The heavy metal band, AC/DC is his favorite.

His original passion was painting and he studied for it. He soon dropped it when he realized he is a bad painter.

He is friends with Tom Cruise and Josh Brolin.
