Known for his gruff style which includes growling and barking on his songs and his general energetic demeanor, DMX is a well-known rapper and an actor.

Early Accomplishments

He was a victim of abuse from his mother and her boyfriends which led him to becoming a street urchin. After several spells in boys’ homes and juvenile centers, he found solace in rapping and beatboxing. He was soon invited by a local rapper for a partnership at age 14.

Best Known For

According to imdb.com, DMX is the 6th all time best-selling rapper with his first 5 of 7 studio albums debuting at top spot on the Billboard chart. Some of his famous hits include X Gon’ Give It To You, Party Up (In Here), What’s My Name and Lord, Gimme a Sign.

He has also starred in the films Cradle 2 the Grave (2003), Romeo Must Die (2000), Exit Wounds (2001) and his reality series DMX: Soul of a Man (2006).

DMX is straight and is now in a committed relationship with Desiree Lindstrom since 2014. He was married to Tashera Simmons for 11 years from 1999 and had several extramarital affairs including with Karrine Steffans in 2002 and Monique Wayne in 2004. 

He met Tashera in 1989 and had been dating ever since. Their divorce was completed in 2014.

Family

Born as Earl Simmons (no middle name) to Joe Barker and Arnett Simmons, he has 2 older half-sisters, Bonita and Shayla and 2 younger half-brothers too. 

He is the father of 15 children, the youngest being Exodus, born in 2016 by Desiree.

Religion

Although raised as a Jehovah Witness, DMX is now a born-again Christian after receiving the call from God in 2012 to become a pastor. He is currently a deacon.

The name DMX allegedly means Dark Man Extreme.

As a kid he was hit by a drunk driver. He also grew up suffering painfully from asthma.
