David Bowie

David Bowie was a music icon and an actor, considered by critics and fellow artistes as one of the most influential of the last century.

Early Accomplishments

Right from an early age and up to his teenage years, his teachers were astonished at his artistic abilities. He learned to play the recorder, ukulele, piano and saxophone.

He formed the Konrads at age 15 and joined 5 other bands until he went solo. The 60s were a struggling period for him until his 1969 song, Space Oddity became a mega hit.

Best Known For

Over his 54-year career, he sold over 140 million copies of his 26 albums; 11 of them being No 1 albums. Some of his best songs include Starman, Fame, Ashes to Ashes, Let’s Dance and Under Pressure.

He played Nikola Tesla in 2006 film, The Prestige and had an award-winning cameo role in 2001’s Zoolander.

Sexual Orientation

David was bisexual and described himself as “incredibly promiscuous”. Until his death, he was husband to Somali supermodel, Iman since their marriage in 1992. 

He was previously married to Angie Barnett for a decade from 1970. He has ben with dozens of women such as Ava Cherry, Elizabeth Taylor, Lindsay Kemp, Hermione Farthingale, Mary Finnigan and a rumored hookup with Mick Jagger. 

Family

He was born as David R. Jones, the only child of Howard and Margaret Jones. He had 3 older half-siblings; Terry and Myra Ann Burns and Annette Jones.

He was father to Duncan Jones with his first wife and Alexandria Jones with his second wife.

Religion

David was not entirely sure of God’s existence. He tended to believe but soon declared himself to be atheist. His cremated remains was however scattered over Bali in line with Buddhist traditions.

Worth To Know

He died of liver cancer just 2 days after his final album release and his birthday in 2016.

He turned down the honor of CBE in 2000 and a knighthood in 2003.

He had a smoking habit of 50 cigarettes a day. After a triple heart bypass surgery in 2004, he quit totally.
