Richard Gere

Richard Gere is one of Hollywood’s most famous names. He dominated the 80s and 90s, often portrayed as a sex symbol in romantic movies.

Early Accomplishments

During his high school days, he was an excellent gymnast and trumpet player. He earned an athlete scholarship to college to study philosophy but left after 2 years to pursue acting.

He began his career on stage in 1969 but got a breakthrough in Grease in 1973. He earned an award for his role in 1979’s Bent. His screen debut came in the 1977 film, Looking for Mr. Goodbar.

Best Known For

He learned to tap-dance and won his first and only Golden Globe for his role in the acclaimed 2002 musical, Chicago. He is also famed for starring in the films American Gigolo (1980), Pretty Woman (1990), Runaway Bride (1999) and The Jackal (1997).

Born as the oldest son of Homer and Doris Gere, he has Laura as his elder one, Susan and Janet as his younger and David as his brother. 

He became a first time father in 2000 to Homer James Gere with Lowell as mother. 

In February of 2019, he and wife, Alejandra birthed a son, his second.

Religion

He was born in a Methodist family but began to study Buddhism in the 70s and is now a very passionate Tibetan Buddhist and has even met the 14th Dalai Lama.
