Who is John Lennon?

John Lennon was the frontman of arguably the greatest band of the 20th century, The Beatles. He was also known as a keen activist for peace.

Early Accomplishments

His mother taught him to play the banjo and bought him his first guitar when he was 16. He formed the skiffle band, The Quarrymen in 1956, a month before he turned 16. This band would eventually become The Beatles.

Best Known For

His achievements with The Beatles will forever be remembered. He also embarked on a solo career, releasing songs such as Instant Karma and Give Peace a Chance.

He also starred in the 1964 film, A Hard Day’s Night.

Sexual Orientation

John was straight and until his demise, was married to Yoko Ono since 1969 after dating for 3 years. Their relationship began while he was married to Cynthia (Powell) Lennon. They were together for a decade from 1958. During a brief separation period, he dated his assistant, May Pang from 1973 to 1975.

Family

He was the son of Alfred Lennon and Julia Stanley but grew up with his aunt Mimi Stanley and husband George Smith. He was the father of Julian (born 1964) with ex-wife Cynthia and Sean (born 1976) with Yoko.

Religion

John was raised Anglican but soon became disenchanted with religion. On several occasions, his quotes and music profoundly suggests atheism. 

Worth To Know

He was shot 4 times in front of his Manhattan apartment and died 10 minutes later. His ashes were scattered in Central Park in New York.

The Rolling Stone magazine have named him the 38th all-time greatest rock & roll artiste.
