This music icon was raised in London and learned to play the piano at an early age. He eventually started with writing songs for other artists before he officially began his career.

Some of his most famous hits include Crocodile Rock, Philadelphia Freedom and most notably, Candle in the Wind.

He came out as bisexual in a 1976 interview with Rolling Stone after his 4 year relationship with Lisa Woodrow from 1966. In 1984, married German recording engineer, Renate Blauel and after divorcing Renate in 1988, Elton stated that he was comfortable with being gay.

He began dating Canadian filmmaker, David Furnish and have both been together for the past 26 years. Both lovers had a civil ceremony in December 2005 but got married in March 2014 after gay marriages became legal in England.

Family

Sir Elton was raised by his mother and maternal grandparents as his father was often physically absent. Elton now has two children named Elijah (born 2012) and Zachary (born 2010), both kids born through surrogacy with long-time partner, David Furnish.

He is quite vocal about his hatred of religion and feels like religion promotes the hatred of gays so he would rather ban it completely.
