Who is Stephanie Mills?

Stephanie Mills is often regarded as one of the best R&B singers of the past 50 years. The singer-songwriter is also a great stage actress.

Early Accomplishments

She was only a child when she began singing in her church choir and appeared in Maggie Flynn, a Broadway musical when she was 9.

At 11, she won Apollo Theater’s Amateur Night for 6 consecutive weeks and soon began to open for Isley Brothers. She earned a record deal at 16 and sang I Knew It Was Love in 1973.

Best Known For

She quickly rose to prominence during the 80s with hits such as I Have Learned To Respect The Power Of Love, Something In The Way (You Make Me Feel), Home and won a Grammy in 1981 for Never Knew Love Like This Before.

Asides singing, she is also popular for her role as Dorothy in the musical, The Wiz in 1975.
