Eldra “El” DeBarge soared to stardom as lead singer of the family’s soul and R&B group, DeBarges. His unique vocal style made the Motown family band a sensation in the mid-80s.

El learned to sing in the church choir as a child and also played the piano. He left school at 16 to join his brothers to sing at clubs and 2 years later, with other siblings and cousin, they became a band known as SMASH.

With his strong falsetto and incredible tenor, he is known for DeBarges hit songs such as Stay With Me, Time Will Reveal and All This Love.
As a solo act, he is also famed for Love Always and Who’s Johnny.

El is straight and by all standards, loves women. He had his first child with ex-wife, Monique DeBarges when he was just 18 and since their split, has been with a handful of other women such as ex-wives Bobbie DeBarge, Tracey Ferguson and a rumored hook-up with Pebbles Reid which produced a child.
Family
He is a son of Robert Sr and Etterlene DeBarge and has brothers Randy, Bobby, Tommy, Mark, Darrel, Chico and James DeBarge with Carol and Bunny DeBarge as his sisters. He fathers 12 children including Adris, El Jr and a rumored Sebastian McKissack.
Religion
El appears to be a practising Christian. He dedicates his revival to God after saying he had hit rock bottom before he went to prison and only God gave him strength to fight back.

Before his 13-months prison time in 2008, he had previously been arrested on drug-related charges 3 times and was given probation.
He appeared in the 2011 romcom, Jumping the Broom.
