Fantasia Barrino

Fantasia Monique Barrino has grown in leaps and bounds from her American Idol days. She continues to make waves as a singer-songwriter and an actress.

Early Accomplishments

She dropped out of high school after she was raped by a classmate but she channelled the bad energy into music and competed in the 2004 edition of American Idol. 

She won the competition under heart-rending circumstances, such that it was described at the greatest TV moment that year.

Best Known For

At that time, she was the youngest winner of American Idol at 19, singing Summertime. Her first single after the show, I Believe became the first debut song by anyone to take Billboard top spot.

She has also sung songs such Bittersweet and Free Yourself. 

Her Broadway debut in 2007 in a musical titled The Color Purple has been critically acclaimed.

Fantasia is straight and married her boyfriend of 3 years, Kendall Taylor in 2017. She dated Antwaun Cook for almost 3 years since 2009 and Michael Clayton for a year in 2004. 

She dated Brandel Shouse from 1998 to 2003. Other names she has being linked with are Young Dro and Jamie Foxx.

Family

She and her brother, Ricco are children of Joseph and Diane Barrino. She has Julius, Nathaniel and Perry Barrino of 70s band, The Barrino Brothers are her uncles. She is also a cousin of musicians K-Ci and JoJo and also Dave Hollister.

She became a mother to Zion with Shouse when she was 16. Her second, a son, was born in 2011 and named Dallas. His father is Antwaun.

Religion

Although she was raised in a Baptist family, there is no indication of any devoutness. It is unclear what she believes in now.

She attempted suicide in 2010 by taking an overdose of unknown sleeping pills.

Her career is laden with several awards including one Grammy win and another 10 nominations.
