Al is straight and despite dating several women, he has not once been married. After dating Jill Clayburgh for a few years from 1967, he had an on and off relationship with Diane Keaton from 1971 to 1991.
He has a child with Jan Tarrant whom he dated in 1988 and a set of twins with Beverly D'Angelo.
He spent 7 years with Lyndall Hobbs in the 90s and has been with Lucila Solá from 2009 till 2018.
He is of Italian descent, born to Salvatore and Rose Pacino but lived with his grandparents, James and Kate Gerardi.
