After watching Gary Cooper in Beau Geste in 1939, 3-year old Terence fell in love with acting. He earned a living by working at advert agencies in the 50s.
He trained at Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Arts on scholarship and performed in the nationwide tour of the play The Long the Short and the Tall.

He is the oldest of the five children born to Thomas and Ethel Stamp which includes his late brother Chris Stamp and sister Lynette Stamp.
