Glynn is straight. His first wife was Ula Walker with their 1965 union lasting until 1971.
In 1978, he walked down the aisle with Aretha Franklin but they were separated 4 years later and finally got divorced in 1984.
He stayed single until 1992 when he married his current wife, Jo-Ann Allen.
He had 3 children with his first wife until his son Glynn Jr. was involved in a street fight and stabbed to death in 1986 aged 21.

He nearly got to play Han Solo in Star Wars in 1977 but he was not given the role to avoid controversies starring alongside Princess Leia played by a white woman.
